"Out at 3rd" is my little corner of the universe where humor meets intergalactic chaos! I’m Chad Sims, the cartoonist behind the adventures of Hayward J. Marogi, an alien sentenced to live on Earth under the less-than-patient guidance of Carl, a sarcastic cat.

Saturday mornings were more than just waking up in your pajamas, eating cereal, and watching Saturday morning cartoons. For one poor kid, it was the day my father got the newspaper.
Although he did get the newspaper during the week, Saturdays were special. The “Funnys” were in color. I can still remember the smell of the Detroit News, feeling the texture between my fingers. I remember negotiating with my sisters over who gets what part of the comic section, until they lost interest. It was much more than artistic expressions drawn under the guise of witty banter. It transformed me to another place. I wanted to do this too. I wanted to be a cartoonist.
Specifically I wanted to be a newspaper cartoonist, I still do. I wanted to open the newspaper and see my drawings there. I wanted others to open their newspaper and have something to say about what I wrote, criticizing my drawings. I wanted to be seen. To this day that has been my dream. At age 16 years old, there was a story written about me dreaming of being a cartoonist, but after that, I did not know where or how to pursue my dream. I put down the pencil and picked up life, only to draw occasionally. With me, lived nagging creative characters whose stories wanted to come out into the world. Now that I'm a little older, and have paid some dues, it's time for me to stop dreaming and wake up. The story is so much funnier when you share it with others.
